MC Machinery Systems, Elk Grove, Illinois, chose Carlson Fabrication Solutions Inc. and Cimarron Industrial Sales as distributors for laser and press brake machinery. Located in Woburn, Massachusetts, Carlson Fabrication Solution’s territory will include Northeastern states while the territory of Cimarron Industry Sales, Benton, Arkansas, will include several Southeastern states and Oklahoma.

Walter Surface Technologies, Windsor, Connecticut, acquired ArcOne, Taunton, Massachusetts, a provider of industrial safety products. Through this acquisition, Walter adds a personal protective equipment product line to its offering. ArcOne will continue to operate under its own brand.
Reliance launches e-commerce website
HGG opens service and support center in Houston
HGG Profiling Equipment opened a 6,500- square-foot center in Houston to better service and support the company’s growing list of customers and profile-cutting machine installations in North and South America. This facility will act as a centralized hub to rapidly deploy technical field service and engineering support; warehouse spare machine parts and plasma consumables; and train customers and HGG personnel on the profile-cutting demo machinery located on site.
U. S. Steel acquires UPI
U.S. Steel Corp. completed its purchase of POSCO-California Corp.’s 50 percent partnership interest in USS-Posco Industries (UPI), Pittsburg, California. After a long, collaborative relationship, U.S. Steel and Korea’s POSCO concluded that ownership of UPI by a single group represents the best opportunity for the mill to continue effectively producing cold-rolled, galvanized sheets and tin mill products made from hot bands principally provided by U.S. Steel. UPI’s annual production capability is 1.5 million tons.
Cliffs completes acquisition
of AK Steel
Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. closed its acquisition of AK Steel Holding Corp., integrating North America’s largest producer of iron ore pellets downstream into the production of value-added steel and specialty manufactured parts for the automotive industry. The combined assets include two integrated blast furnace steel mills, two electric arc furnace plants, a new HBI plant and several other highly technologically developed facilities. The combined company will be led by Chairman, President and CEO Lourenco Goncalves.
